Our trip to The Pimple
In Art we are learning about landscapes, and what better landscape to sketch than the one that is right on our doorstep, Dartmoor.
We walked up to the moors and spent some time taking in the beautiful view. We had a visit from a cheeky pony who was the subject of some of our close up images.

For the love of reading
We have had our first browsing session of the term. This is where we look at all of the lovely new books available in our classrooms and see what tickles our fancy. We talk about genres and authors, new characters, fact and fiction - the world is our oyster.

PSHE - Emotions
There were no worries in Year 4 when naming and exploring their emotions in PSHE. The children were able to list a broad range of emotions and express a time when they may feel these. All children had a very mature attitude to their learning and finished their learning happy!

Show and tell
Hazel found the skull of a young deer on her weekend and brought it in for an interesting show and tell. The rest of the class enjoyed finding out about where she found it and what she is going to do with it after.

Round the outside!
This week year 4 have begun to look at finding the perimeter of a 2D shape. They used string to measure the outside of an image and compare lengths. Over the next week, they will begin to use values in their calculations and compare regular and irregular polygons.

Garden Day
It was a chilly day for Year 4 garden day but that didn't deter them from being outside and enjoying the winter sunshine. We played in the environmental garden, made leaf art, orienteered (before the rain!) and shared some of our project homework.

It's arra-zing!!
We are using arrays to reinforce our times tables knowledge. So far we have revisited our 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables.
Arrays have helped us to visualise grouping and understand the numbers that we are working with.

It's electric!
In Science we are learning all about circuits. We have explored the components that we need to make a complete circuit and have been exploring scientific symbols. We used these to create circuits in our books and with the equipment. Then we explored how circuits changed if we change the components. Over the next few weeks we will explore items that are conductors and insulators.

Rocco made a chocolate cake for Class 11 to enjoy. The recipe was not traditional and included spices, but all children tried a piece and all were pleasantly surprised.
'This is the second best thing I've ever eaten!'

Science
In Science, Year 4 are learning all about sound. In class we made our own telephones with cups and string to see how sound travelled from our mouths to our partners ears.
We used a tuning fork, which vibrated ALOT (and splashed us) to show how sound waves vibrate.
