Teaching Science at Tavistock Primary and Nursery School

At Tavistock Primary School, we want children to be curious, critical thinkers, have good observational and communication skills and be able to form their own opinions. We want children to understand and have interest in the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life, both locally and globally.

Through delivering an engaging, inspiring and high quality science education, children will build up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. Children will be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain occurrences, make predictions, and analyse causes through the teaching of the statutory content of the National Curriculum and EYFS.

Our aim is to ensure children are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of Science, today and for the future.
