Safeguarding of Children

Safeguarding of Pupils
We take the safeguarding of all children very seriously at Tavistock Community Primary & Nursery School and have put in place many measures to ensure the safety of our children as well as offering support to families that need extra help.  All staff have an enhanced DBS clearance check.

Safeguarding Statement
Tavistock Community Primary and Nursery School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff, governors, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website.

We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in Child Protection, and children are made aware that they should talk to adults if they have any concerns. All staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). All adults in the school are also required to share any concerns about other staff members or visitors within the school directly with the Headteacher.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents or carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism through our promoted ethos and work in PSHE.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Lynnette Selbie (Headteacher). Our Deputy DSL is Mrs Laura Handel (Deputy Headteacher).

Other Level 3 Safeguarding Officers are Mrs Sue Gawman (School Business Manager), Miss Alice Warnett (Administrator), Mrs Caroline Smith (SENDCo).
