Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium at Tavistock Primary and Nursery School

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools to help reduce inequalities and improve outcomes for children who may face barriers to learning. This includes pupils who are eligible for free school meals (FSM), children who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years, children looked after by the local authority, and children from service families.

At Tavistock Primary and Nursery School, we are committed to ensuring every child thrives, regardless of their background or starting point. We use our Pupil Premium funding carefully and strategically to remove barriers, close gaps, and ensure pupils make strong progress academically, socially and emotionally.

Our approach includes:

  • High‑quality teaching for all, ensuring lessons are well structured, engaging and ambitious.
  • Targeted support and interventions, including small‑group tuition, additional phonics support, and bespoke catch‑up programmes.
  • Pastoral and wellbeing support, such as mentoring, emotional regulation strategies, and access to our pastoral team (including Simba, our school dog!)
  • Opportunities for enrichment, ensuring all pupils can take part in trips, clubs and wider curriculum experiences.

We regularly review the impact of our Pupil Premium strategy to make sure the funding is being used effectively and making a real difference to children’s outcomes. Our full Pupil Premium Strategy document is updated annually and is available for parents and carers on our website.

At Tavistock Primary and Nursery School, we believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life — and the Pupil Premium funding helps us to ensure that no child is left behind.
