Nursery
Welcome to Nursery
I am Mrs Jones. Although I am predominantly based in the 3 and 4-year-old room, I also oversee the learning in 2-year-old room. I am supported by an experienced team of Teaching Assistants.
The Nursery is situated in our purpose-built Foundation Stage building, which has a range of fantastic resources and facilities, and benefits from direct access to the Nursery garden.
You can find further details of what your child is learning each week by looking at our half term curriculum overviews.
Please make sure you are sharing books with your child at home. See below for the Nursery suggested reading list.
Please see our Welcome Booklet below to find out more information.
Gruffalo Cupcakes
We have been reading the story of "The Gruffalo" by Julia Donaldson. Many of our learning activities have been based on the story and, today, we decorated some Gruffalo cupcakes! The children thought carefully about his orange eyes and poisonous wart, and where these should be placed. All of the children agreed the cakes tasted delicious!
Nursery Christmas Event 2025
It was lovely to welcome so many of our parents and families to Nursery for our Christmas singing event! The children performed a selection of songs with dances and actions, which they had been working hard to learn. It was a lovely, festive occasion, enjoyed by all.
Making Music in the Sunshine!
The Nursery children have really enjoyed getting out in the wonderful sunshine! We provided them with a range of instruments and other resources to enable them to create sounds and rhythms. We heard some lovely singing and rhythmic patterns!
Easter Bonnet Making and Parade
We were joined by lots of families for our Easter Bonnet afternoon. Everyone worked together to create some fantastic Easter/Spring- themed hats, using a range of resources, including pom poms, feathers, sequins and stickers! The children then paraded around our lovely garden in the glorious spring sunshine! Thank you to all who came and supported this event.
Life Cycle of a Frog
In Nursery, we have been exploring nature and the seasonal changes associated with Spring. We are very lucky that our lovely Key Worker, Michelle, was able to bring in some frogspawn from her garden for us to observe. Over the past few weeks, we have watched eagerly as the spawn has hatched, the tadpoles have swum and wriggled about, have eaten cucumber and begun to grow their back legs! The tadpoles have returned to Michelle's for the Easter break but we hope to hear news of their development very soon!
World Book Day 2025
On Thursday 6th March, the children of Tavistock Primary school celebrated World Book Day by dressing as their favourite characters! The Nursery children joined in and the staff dressed as different characters from our current theme book, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?"
Reward Day
To reward the children for all of their hard work during the first half term of this academic year, we had a Pyjama Day! The children chose their favourite short film to watch and we all had hot chocolate and a biscuit.
Mark Making
In Nursery, the children enjoyed making marks on large rolls of paper in response to different types of music, including music by our 'Musician of the Month', ABBA.
Autumn Walk on the Field
The children had a great time exploring the school field, looking for signs of Autumn! We put on our puddle suits so that we could splash in the puddles and collected leaves and seed cases!
Librarian Visit
On Monday 13th October, the Nursery Pupils were visited by Cherry from Tavistock Library. She read some stories linked to our current topic, 'Autumn'. The children really enjoyed it!
