Curriculum Planning

Our Curriculum

At Tavistock Primary and Nursery School the personal development of every child is central to our curriculum. Individuals’ different learning needs and styles are taken into account and everyone is challenged and included in order to experience success. Our curriculum reflects the locality of the school and we ensure that our local community is celebrated through learning and school life. We are  extremely fortunate to have a large outside environment with an environmental area, an outdoor classroom, a large field and several playgrounds. We have garden days to make the most of opportunities for outdoor learning across all curriculum areas to help develop personal and social skills, communication, problem solving, thinking skills and teamwork.

The curriculum is designed to be broad and deliver the National Curriculum through topics which develop a narrative that children understand and enables them to make links both personally and with the wider world. Our curriculum teaches the mastery of facts and information which underpins the application of a wide range of skills. Our curriculum structure builds upon itself through appropriately sequenced content which is deepened over time through intelligent repetition and revision.

How we teach the aspects of the National Curriculum are summarised within our long term curriculum overviews and half term curriculum overviews.
