Homework

Homework at Tavistock Primary and Nursery School

At Tavistock Primary and Nursery School, we believe that homework supports children to consolidate learning, develop independence, and foster positive home–school partnerships. Our homework is designed to:

  • Be accessible and inclusive for all children
  • Reinforce key skills in core curriculum areas
  • Develop positive learning habits and resilience
  • Provide opportunities for parental engagement in learning
  • Support fluency and recall of key knowledge (e.g. phonics, spelling, number facts)
  • Promote a love of reading and curiosity beyond the classroom

To ensure homework is inclusive for all our children, tasks may be adapted or scaffolded to support and ensure accessibility. We firmly believe that homework should not negatively impact wellbeing. Families should contact school if concerns arise.

Half Term Curriculum Overviews

Each half term we will provide parents with a curriculum overview of the learning which will take place and the topics that will be covered in school. If parents would like to do additional learning with their children on these topics, it is always welcomed.

We have chosen to focus on the core subject areas of reading, phonics/spelling and mathematics for homework.

Half Term Optional Project Homework

Please see the documents below for each year group (Y1-6) for details of suggested activities which you can do with your child. The activities link to the upcoming learning for the second half of each term. The activities are optional and there is no expectation that they are completed.

If your child would like to share their completed projects, please do bring them into school, we would love to see them.
